This trail is located in the Siskiyou mountains of Southern Oregon. The trail is approximately 6 miles round trip with 1000 feet of elevation gain. It is hike number 58 from William L. Sullivan’s book 100 Hikes in Southern Oregon & N. Cal. The hike is basically a 3 mile out and back on a section of the PCT. It follows along a ridge with lots of open views and little tree coverage. If you plan on doing the hike on a summer day in the afternoon make sure you bring sun protection.

The trail head is not difficult to find. The last half mile or so of the road in was a little washed out when I went up in November 2019. There’s plenty of parking at the trailhead.

The high point of this hike is 3 miles out. This is the highest point of the PCT in this section. Also a short bushwhack from this point will take you to an old mine. I couldn’t find the mine when I went. Turns out the GPS coordinates in the book are off by a few hundred feet. If you visit William L. Sullivan’s website there’s a correction with the correct coordinates. Next time I do the hike I will have to check out the mine.

I have done a few hikes in the Red Buttes/Eastern Siskiyous now and really enjoy the area. I hope to do a lot more on this area over the coming years. The area is only about an hours drive from where I live in Medford.
